The City of Devils Lake has been working hard at promoting the Devils Lake Region as a first class Walleye fishing destination. Devil Lake offers anglers some of the best Walleye and Northern Pike fishing in the Midwest. Along with their promotion the City of Devils Lake has completed a great deal of development establishing three accessible fishing piers for persons with mobility disabilities. These have enabled more people with disabilities to access the water over the stone rip rap which blocked many people's access to the lake previously.
Description
The pier located at this site offers people with disabilities an opportunity to fish a channel where fish travel from one large body of water to another. The best fishing opportunities here are in the spring followed by the fall. Many anglers fish using either a casting or a bobber rig. The casting technique is used for Northern Pike predominantly while the bobber rig more for Walleye but it is not unheard of for an occasional Northern Pike to be caught using the setup.
Visitors will want to bring a helper with them if they have problems with distances especially if they bring a great deal of gear with them. The site is accessible but does involve a long ramp leading to the fishing pier. The ramp and pier do not offer any places to sit and rest so you will want to bring a chair so you can sit while fishing and when traveling down to the pier if you would like to rest. The ramp does have flat resting areas every 30 feet and a railing which helps people with balance problems having areas in which to rest and also to steady themselves while walking up and down the ramp.
