Description

The pier is located within a County Park found within the City limits of Park Rapids.  The layout of the pier is similar to all Minnesota piers in construction which allows ample room to approach the two fishing area’s cut outs found facing the water way.  The pier is unique, it has the two main types of fishing area cut out designs usually not found combined on one pier.  One is an angled rest with two holes on each end for fishing rod polls and the other is open stiles anglers fish between offering people the ability to fish without having their arms raised to hold the pole, see pictures.  As with all piers with railings netting fish can be difficult, a person may be able to land fish by reaching between the railing guards rather than reaching over the railing.  The approach to the dock is a 6’ sidewalk which runs from the street to the pier and is just a little greater slope than 1/18 with an average slope of 5.8%.  Anglers will have to use the tar parking lot and the adjoining roadway to access the walk leading to the pier.  The road provides a turnaround for persons driving through the area as well as providing access to the boat landing and parking lot.  The distance from the accessible parking area to the pier is approximately 200 feet.

While reviewing the site two young fishermen reported it was good spot to catch pan fish and northern pike.  They were observed using both bobbers and casting rigs.  While making your way to the pier and while fishing anglers may want to bring their own chairs there are none on the fishing pier or between the parking area and pier.  The park seems to have no interconnecting sidewalks; it would seem most people use the roads from which to travel between the amenities.  The park has restrooms located in the middle of the park on the left side as one drives to the fishing pier.  Most people would probably have to drive to the restrooms if needed.
